Email Setup for Treo



 

 

 

 

 

 

These instructions will allow you to set
up your Palm Treo 650 or 680 to access
your George Mason University email. In order
to use Versamail, your Treo 650 or 680 service
must include a data plan. These instructions apply
to devices connected to the Cingular network
.





Launch Versamail on your Treo 650 or Email
on your Treo 680
Click the Application Menu button which is
located above the Mail icon
Select the Accounts menu
Select Accounts Setup from the menu
Select New
For Account Name, enter: Mason
For Mail Service select OTHER from the drop
down menu
For Protocol, select IMAP from the drop down
menu
Select Next

Type in your Mason EMAIL ID and
Password (do not include @gmu.edu)
Select Next


Type in your full Email Address (jsmith@gmu.edu)
For incoming server, type mail.gmu.edu
For outgoing server, type smtp.gmu.edu
Select Next

Select Advanced

Check the box marked Use Secure Connection
(SSL)
. The port number should be 993.

Select Next

Check the box marked Use Secure Connection
(SSL)
. The port number should be 25.
Check the box marked Use authentication (ESMTP).
Select Done and then Select OK

To verify that Versamail is using SSL for the
receipt of email, follow these instructions
(similar to what is above):
• Launch Versamail on your Treo 650 or
Email for the Treo 680
• Select the Application Menu button which is
located above the Mail icon
• Select the Accounts Menu
• Select Accounts Setup from the menu
• Click on the entry for Mason
• Select Edit
• Select Next
• Select Next
• For outgoing server, smtp.gmu.edu:
• Select Next
• Select Advanced
• The box marked Use Secure Connection
should be checked. If not checked, check it and
the port number should change to 993.
• Select Next
• The two boxes on the screen should be unchecked
• Select Done and then Select OK
